The Green Party's Mission: Possible

May 22, 2019

OTTAWA -- The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned that any rise in global average temperature above 1.5 degrees C will mean losing our hospitable biosphere. Extraordinary circumstances call for bold and decisive action. Today, Green Party Leader Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands) and MP-elect Paul Manly will unveil Mission: Possible, the Party’s bold 20-step action plan to avert climate catastrophe. The plan sets out some, but not all, of the components of the party’s 2019 election platform.

Mission: Possible sets out clear initiatives to guide all sectors of Canadian society in transitioning to the vibrant, carbon-free economy of the 21st century. The plan targets 60 per cent GHG reductions against 2005 levels by 2030 and zero emissions by 2050.

Mission: Possible will re-establish Canada as a global leader: a fossil fuel dependent country that plans and successfully executes the end of our dependence on fossil fuels.

The climate is not an environmental issue, it is the gravest security threat the world has ever seen.
