This morning Ontario Liberal candidates committed that they will protect the Hôpital Montfort and access to French language health services.
In 1995, Mike Harris was asked point-blank: “Will you close hospitals?”
“I can guarantee you that it is not my plan to close hospitals,” he told Ontarians at the time. He went on to say that with the savings from his plan, he would reinvest in our health care system. (Leaders Debate May 1995)
We all know what happened next. As soon as Harris stepped into the Premier’s Office he fired 6,000 nurses, closed hospitals and tried to close the Montfort, devastating patient care for Ontarians.
Ontario Liberals fought Mike Harris back then, and continue to fight hard to restore and improve our health care system. That’s why, we have continued to invest in and grow the Montfort.
Tim Hudak is now proposing reckless cuts that are more radical than before, these cuts would have a devastating impact on our health care services, He’s even using identical language to try and convince Ontarians that the services they rely on wont’ be impacted. His plan to turn 100,000 paycheques into pink slips will impact hospital support staff, health care researchers and personal support workers.
Ontario Liberals have a strong plan to ensure that residents of Ottawa get the health care they need in both official languages.

2014 LIBERAL BUDGET – HEALTH CARE SUPPORT
- Investing $11 billion for approved major capital projects at hospitals over the next 10 years.
- A dedicated Community Infrastructure Renewal Fund of $300 million over the next 10 years to support Community Health Centres, Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics, community-based mental health and addictions organizations, and Aboriginal Health Access Centres.
A low-income Health Benefit, which will provide health benefits, like drugs, vision and mental health services to children from low-income families.
