The problem with endorsements

October 23, 2014

I was asked a question by the local media. The media is wonderful around this area but just in case it gets edited for space, here's the whole thing...

I was wondering if you could send me a quick response to the question: How is the campaign going so far and what was your reaction to Doug Thompson’s endorsement of George Darouze?

My response is..."I am enjoying the campaign, meeting with so many people and continuing my work for the Ward and City. I love where I live and what I do. And what I do for people is hardwork and to be busy at it is very rewarding to me and beneficial to the residents.

As for Councillor Thompson's endorsement, it is extremely disappointing. It's apparently been in the works for 2 years if the job shadowing has been occurring but the Councillor and Candidate have both denied the endorsement many times before the statement on Oct 8.

I feel that leaving/retiring councillors should remain neutral and allow voters to make the decision of a new Councillor based on the residents own opinions and the performance/history of the candidates. Residents are not sheep who need to be herded into who to vote for."
