The birth of Direct Democracy in Canada: Unpublished Ottawa launches new voting tool and forum for current affairs

June 7, 2018

Ottawa, June 7—The birth of Direct Democracy in Canada is taking place today with the launch of Unpublished.vote, a voting tool and forum dedicated to empowering Canadians to become better informed on the issues that affect them, and to express their point of view on individual issues as they enter the collective consciousness.

Unpublished.vote is the brainchild of James O’Grady, a social media entrepreneur and founder of UnpublishedOttawa.com, a social media website dedicated to current affairs in Canada. A strong advocate for grassroots democracy at all levels of government, Mr. O’Grady is also running in the Ontario provincial election for the Green Party in the new riding of Nepean.

“Combining an educational forum with a voting tool that empowers Canadians to express their views on individual issues as they enter the collective consciousness of Canadians, is something I’ve been working on for 20 years. I am very happy to finally be able to bring this solution forward”, Mr. O’Grady says.

A big part of Unpublished.vote is a new show and podcast on current affairs, hosted by veteran radio journalist Ed Hand. The Unpublished.cafe features interviews with Canadians from all walks of life on important issues in the news. Along with podcasts and videos from the Unpublished.cafe, Unpublished.vote will provide links to documentation, news articles, opinion pieces and posts published to UnpublishedOttawa.com, to help educate Canadians before they cast their vote.

“The way Canadians process news and information is rapidly changing in today’s wired world. Unpublished.vote and Unpublished.cafe help to fill the void with a non-partisan approach to informing and educating voters on issues before they cast their vote”, says Mr. Hand. “I’m looking forward to engaging Canadians again through this new forum.”

“If you’re tired of the same old partisan political games played by all parties in Canada, then Unpublished.vote is the tool for you. We believe Canadians want to have more of a say in the decisions that affect their daily lives. To do so, they need to be informed, which is exactly what we plan to do”, Mr. O’Grady says.

The first vote on Unpublished.vote is the Ontario provincial election taking place today.
