Poll: Should NHL President Gary Bettman step down for not fully disclosing the Dadonov contract violation to new Sens owner Michael Landauer?

New Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer

News continues to swirl around the Ottawa Senators this week as long-time General Manager Pierre Dorion was fired for an administration mistake resulting in negligence around the trade of Evgenii Dadonov to the Los Vegas Golden Knights.

The NHL decided to charge the Ottawa Senators a first-round draft pick as a result, a very steep price to pay for an admin error. The Senators forgot to send Los Vegas Dadonov's no trade clause when he was traded. Which, as Andlauer says, made the NHL look foolish when the news came out. But, did Vegas not do their due-diligence? What about the League? Does the NHL not have a copy of every player's contract? Is Ottawa being penalized for other people's laziness?

At the 18:15 mark of this press conference with new Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer, Mr. Andlauer ponders why he wasn't made aware of the seriousness of the infraction during the purchasing process of the Ottawa Senators hockey franchise this year.

If Pierre Dorion had to pay the price for making a mistake of "omission", should Gary Bettman not pay the same price for a similar mistake?

What does it say about him and the League if the NHL can’t tell a prospective buyer what’s under the hood?  Could you imagine that happening in New York City?  Not a chance.

So, we ask in this web poll:

Should NHL President Gary Bettman step down for not telling Michael Landauer about the Dadonov trade violation during the franchise purchasing process?

What goes around comes around Gary. If it's appropriate for Pierre Dorion to be fired for a negligence mistake which resulted in the loss of a first round draft pick, then so should you for not declaring the situation to new Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer during the hockey franchise purchasing process. Former Ottawa Senator owner Bruce Firestone estimates a first round draft pick is worth at least $20 Million to every team. Who is going to repay the Senators for that loss?
