Publisher:Audio
Every year the City of Ottawa traps and kills beavers in at least a dozen locations across the city. City officials call beavers a problem, saying that the beavers cause flooding. Wildlife experts disagree, presenting the case that beavers actually prevent flooding.
In this episode of the Fulcrum Radio Show on Beaver Killings in Ottawa; Part 2, we speak with Nick Stow, the City Planner for the City of Ottawa, as well as Glen Gower, City Councillor for Stittsville. We also talk to Mike Callahan from the Beaver Institute in Massachusetts, who is one of North America's leading experts on beavers.
And, we go on a tour of the TransCanada Trail, with the Stittsville Landkeepers: Ann Swanwick, Leslie McKay and Catherine Clysdale. We also meet Ken McRae, an environmental activist who has been documenting the changes taking place in the local wetlands for years, including the history and influence of private development.
