I released my vision for transportation in Ottawa earlier this week. Please see the summary and the link to the PDF of my slide show presentation below.

Gridlock in Ottawa has a huge negative impact on our quality of life.

The Complete Streets Approach to transit, favoured by the current administration, favours pedestrians and cyclists at the expense of cars and drivers

In a city where weather makes cycling simply impossible for much of the year, this strategy hardly makes sense. The bicycle lanes obstructing much of Laurier Street are a perfect example of this policy.

Mike Maguire will focus on relieving congestion for the average commuter in Ottawa, the car driver, with common sense solutions.

OC Transpo

The City continues to use an out-dated bus service model which has resulted in constantly increasing prices, with no improvement in service.

As mayor, Mike Maguire will modernize Ottawa’s bus service to reduce costs.

Light Rail

The current administration has prioritized glamorous LRT projects that place appearance over substance. Current projects do not address gridlock on the Queensway or arterial roads, and will not be completed for years.

Mike Maguire will put rail on existing track around the city instead of spending billions on new projects. This strategy dramatically reduces costs, and takes far less time to complete.
