I'm disappointed to see Jason Spezza leave the Ottawa Senators. Despite his lack of defensive instincts, he's an offensive force. I expect him to be fully recovered from his back surgery this year and to return to his normal self--scoring 80+ points.

Below is my comment on Ken Warren's Ottawa Citizen article today entitled: In the end, Jason Spezza couldn't skate away from himself.

Perhaps expectations of Jason Spezza were too high coming out of Junior? The scouts don't get it right all the time. Does the name Alexandre Daigle ring a bell? It should for Ottawa Senators fans.

Spezza is a great player and we are going to miss him dearly next year. This will be his second season since back surgery. I remember how much better a player Gary Roberts was once he got his back issues out of the way. I expect Spezza to be back to his normal self in 2014-15 and will be good for 1-point a game or an 80+ point season. Who on the Senators has shown the ability to achieve that level of point production other than Erik Karlsson?

And to think, its Sens fans who have driven him away. According Bryan Murray, as he was quoted in the Citizen.

Please read Ken Warren's article and the public comments for more information on the Spezza saga and whether or not he really wants to leave Ottawa.
