With Eagles Circling Above...
Author's Video Note:
With three eagles circling above Parliament Hill (too high to photograph), the Ottawa Valley Algonquin Drummers pounded away on their drums, calling on the spirits to free the Chaudiere Falls and Islands from development during the Algonquin Grandmothers' march to Parliament Hill on June 17, 2016. (See 2nd video)
It was a beautifully sunny day and spirits were high even before the eagles arrived. But, their sudden appearance in the sky high above the procedings was a clear signal to everyone there that the spirits would hear their call for a sacred site to be re-established at the ancient site of the Chaudiere Falls and Islands, in the middle of the Ottawa River.
Many First Nation people spoke about the importance of this sacred site, why they wanted to be a part of this march and what it would mean to them if the Canadian government were to follow through on its promise to build Grandfather Commanda's vision for a Welcome Centre on Victoria Island. Albert Dumont was amoung them. Please see the 1st video in this post for his very moving speech.
