GPO leader Mike Schreiner made the following statement in support of the Ontario Legislature’s motion against Islamophobia:

“Losing six members of the Muslim community to hate last month is devastating.

I want Canada and Ontario to be a place where we celebrate our diversity. A place where we make sure that every person is safe and welcome in our communities regardless of faith.

This is why it is so important for us to speak out against Islamophobia.

I support MPP Nathalie Des Rosiers’ motion condemning Islamophobia. I appreciate all the parties at Queen’s Park supporting this motion. This is an issue that is above party lines.

The shooting at the Quebec mosque proved again that we have to work harder. We have to make sure to recognize the contributions of the Muslim community. We must recognize the specific threat against our Muslim friends.

We must come together to condemn such hate and violence.

It's our responsibility to make sure everyone is safe and welcome in our communities.”
